Located
in Sturgis which is about 30 miles north of Rapid City. Some of the
activities here include Boating, camping, fishing, picnicking, hiking
and horseback riding. There is an education center here that discusses
the mountain’s geology and the history and culture of the Northern Plains
Indians. Bear Butte in the Black Hills is sacred to many American Indian
tribes. Many come here to hold religious ceremonies so please be respectful
of them.
Located
in Pierre. Hands-on science learning for all ages. There are special
classes for preschool age children throughout the year that will inspire
their love of learning. There are classes once a month on early out
days for the elementary age child as well as weekly classes in the summer
and camps. There is even a class for middle school aged girls to help
them feel more comfortable with science, engineering, technology and
math. The center also sponsors science-hits-the-road programs that will
bring science to your school or community event.
