Cape Meares State Park and Cape Meares National Wildlife Refuge

Cape Meares State Park and Cape Meares National Wildlife RefugeLocated on the northwestern Oregon coast just south of Tillamook Bay. Cape Meares provides a great view of the largest colony of nesting common murres. This is one of the most populous colonies of nesting sea birds on the continent. Peregrine falcons and bald eagles are also seen here. The Cape Meares Lighthouse is open for tours from April 1 through October 31. There are over 3 miles of hiking trails and a mile-long walking trail that passes the “Octopus Tree.” A short hike will bring you to the largest Sitka spruce tree in the state. It is a great place to watch migrating whales in winter and spring. The small refuge protects one of the last stands of old-growth coastal forest in Oregon.

Golden And Silver Falls State Park

Golden And Silver Falls State ParkLocated in southwest Oregon east of Coos Bay. Golden Falls is one of the most impressive waterfalls in the Coast Range of Oregon at 200 feet. A large amount of water flows in the winter. Silver Falls is about 150 feet. Hiking trails wind through scenic canyons to each of the waterfalls. Activities include fishing, hiking, picnicking and photography. There are at least 8 other waterfalls within 7 miles of this park.
