Located
in east central Nevada just west of the Nevada/Utah border. There is
no entrance fee to the park but there is a fee for tours of Lehman Caves.
This area has some of the darkest night skies left in the United States.
With the naked eye on a clear moonless night, you can see 5 planets,
star clusters, meteors, the Andromeda Galaxy, and the Milky Way. Other
activities in the park include camping, biking, fishing, picnicking,
snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, hiking, climbing and horseback riding.
Great Basin is home to 5,000 year old bristlecone pine tree and singleleaf
pinyon that produce pine nuts in the Fall.
Located
17 miles west of Las Vegas. This national conservation area offers a
13-mile scenic drive and more than 30 miles of hiking trails. Other
activities include picnicking, rock climbing, horseback riding, mountain
and road biking, and camping. The geologic features and plants and animals
represent some of the best examples of the Mojave Desert.
