Chesterfield Gorge

Chesterfield GorgeLocated in Chesterfield, MA. This rock canyon has 70-foot-high walls carved by the East Branch of the Westfield River. There is an easy ½ mile hike along the top of the gorge that gives you breathtaking views of the gorge, the river and the surrounding forest. The forest is home to bears, bobcats and turkeys. There is another trail that follows the river for 7 miles that is popular with hikers and mountain bikers. This area is open from April 1 to December 1, daily from 8:00 am to sunset.

Boston Harbor Islands National Park

Boston Harbor Islands National ParkThere are 12 islands and peninsulas that are ready for exploring and 22 more that form an island wilderness that make up this 1600 acre park. You can explore on your own or there are programs and tours available. These islands provide critical nesting and feeding grounds for coastal birds so certain areas should be avoided during the breeding season. You can take the park ferry around the harbor and see the islands from the water or you can get off and explore the islands. Activities include fishing, swimming, camping, ranger programs, boating, kayaking, IslandCaching, or touring a lighthouse.
