Located
in Kent, near the New York border. The museum features works of art
by Eric Sloane who was an artist, author and illustrator of over 30
books. It also houses a reconstruction of his studio and a collection
of hand tools. Sloane built a pioneer cabin described in the book “Diary
of an Early American Boy” an 1805 diary that he published. Also on the
museum property is the Kent Iron Furnace which began productions of
pig iron in 1826 and continued until 1892. Remains of the granite blast
furnace can be seen below the museum.
Located
in Groton, CT. This fort played a key role in the early days of the
Revolutionary War. It defended the port of New London which was a supply
center for the new Continental Army. It is also the site of the 1781
massacre led by the traitor, Benedict Arnold. The park is open year
round but the museum and monument are only open in the summer, Wed-Sunday.
