The Denver Mint

The Denver MintLocated in Denver. There is a free guided tour where you will learn about the history of the United States Mint and how coins are produced. Reservations are required. Tours are recommended for ages 7 and up. You must arrive 30 minutes prior to the tour. No handbags, purses, backpacks or bags or any kind are allowed on the tour. Tours of the United States Mint are only given at the Denver and Philadelphia facilities.

Great Sand Dunes National Park and Preserve

Great Sand Dunes National Park and PreserveLocated 35 miles northeast of Alamosa, CO. 150,000 acres of grasslands, wetlands, dunes, forests, lakes, and 13,000 foot mountains. Try sandboarding or sand sledding on the tallest sand dunes in North America. Star Dune at 750 feet is the tallest dune in North America. You can explore the 30 square mile dunefield and there is even a free dunes-accessible wheelchair available to borrow. Camping in the dunes is also permitted as well as in other areas of the park. Other activities available are birdwatching in the wetlands, playing in Medano Creek or hiking one of the many mountain trails. Open 24 hours a day, every day, all year. The visitor center features a movie about the park, interactive exhibits, a bookstore and rangers to help you plan your visit.
